Description
In an effort to better quantify winter time particulate matter (PM) and the contribution of wood smoke to pollution events in Fresno, a field campaign was conducted between December 24th, 2003 and January 15, 2004. Over this three week period both coarse and fine daily PM samples were collected at five locations in Fresno including residential, urban, and industrial sites.

Recent work has suggested that large amounts of anthropogenic sulfate aerosol reduce riming efficiency in some mixed-phase clouds leading to a decrease in snowfall rate. This study investigates this aerosol effect in the Colorado Park Range for four winter storm cases in February 2005.

Description
Mesoscale convective systems (MCSs) have a large influence on the weather over the central United States during the warm season by generating essential rainfall and severe weather. To gain insight into the predictability of these systems, the precursor environment of several hundred MCSs were thoroughly studied across the U.S. during the warm seasons of 1996-98.

Description
A dust and deposition module has been added to the CSU Regional Atmospheric Modeling System (RAMS). The new scheme utilizes a global map of potential sources and parameterizes emissions based on model wind speed and soil moisture. This study focuses on the testing of the new scheme, with emphasis on its ability to accurately model the spatial extent of dust as well as the column optical thickness and surface visibility.
